Although this type of reed lasts significantly longer than traditional brass reeds, prolonged playing over a number of years will ultimately result in tone being lost and, ultimately, reeds not functioning correctly. Fortunately, replacement reed plates are substantially less costly than replacing the entire harmonica, and the process of removing the old reed plates and adding the new ones is relatively simple, requiring only basic tools and some mechanical sympathy!
